A nurse from Belfast has been struck off the register after being found guilty of striking a disabled child. A panel of the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Conduct and Competence Committee found Eavan Murphy, who at the time was working as an 'E' grade Learning Disabilities Nurse in Forest Lodge at Belvoir Park Hospital, Belfast, guilty of misconduct and will no longer allow her to work as a nurse. The panel heard that she gave the child several short, sharp slaps. [click link for full article]

The American Medical Association (AMA) wants retail health clinics to be investigated for possible conflict of interest. Retail health clinics, also called store-based health clinics, are walk-in health centres inside large supermarkets, pharmacies and stores such as Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreen and Rite Aid. You can see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant who can carry out basic procedures such as give injections and write prescriptions for minor illnesses. [click link for full article]
